Braintree District Arts (BDA), sadly, was disbanded after itsí last AGM in 2015, due to a general demise. Funding had been issue for several years and BDA had just about exhausted the funding opportunities open to it.
More importantly perhaps, many of the tasks that BDA had carried out for its members - concerning information and publicity particularly - are now being offered through the internet.
It is a great sadness, particularly to the many people who have volunteered in a variety of ways, to see the organisation come to an end. Members and member organisations have also expressed disappointment that the organisation will no longer be offering a Whats On.
And the Arts Go On...
Sponsor George Yard Shopping Centre has taken on the opportunity of organising the Braintree Open Art Exhibition (The Open) in conjunction with Braintree Community Centre and their Summer School.
An empty shop in George Yard will host the Fresh Air Gallery from mid May to early September, with a series of exhibitions on show.
The Open will be on display from 25th June to 16th July 2016 and all artists are encouraged to take part either in The Open or in the Braintree Art Trail which runs at the same time throughout the Town Centre. Entry forms on www.braintreecommunitycentre.org.uk or by calling 01376 550373.
The Fresh Air Gallery has its own Facebook page where up to date information can be found.
